This Entrepreneur Shares the Mindset that Helps Her Stay on Track

I don’t know how many times people have said to me…”I don’t know if I can do it.  I lack belief in myself.”  “I don’t feel like I have anything of value to offer.” My answer to each one of these self-sabotaging statements is the same, “We are all created equal.  Of course you can achieve anything you put your mind to achieve!  Look at all the examples we have to show us the way.”

We Are All Created Equal

Most of the time, your lack of confidence can be traced back to your mindset, your own personal philosophy of life. What has shaped your mindset surrounding your ability to succeed, to create financial freedom, and live life on your terms?

For me, it has been this quote, “We are all created equal.”  This has been a defining theme in my life.  It has helped shape who I am as a person; from my thoughts, beliefs, values, and actions to my success, happiness, philanthropic endeavors, and work.  It’s driven me to see the good in all people.  It has allowed me to understand that every person deserves a chance to create the life they want to live, and the importance of giving people respect and love because they are special, simply for the reason that they have been created.

9 Ways to Get Unstuck and Take Action on Your Ideas

You’ve likely heard the saying, “Don’t take ‘no’ for an answer.” But if you did take it for an answer in the past, it’s possible you never saw your idea or plan through to a successful completion.

Change Your Reaction to Take Action

No matter where you travel in life or what you accomplish, there are always roadblocks that keep your ideas stuck in your head and naysayers ready to shoot them down. While you can’t change that, what you can adjust is the way you react to those roadblocks, so that you are able to keep your eyes on the prize - bringing your idea to life. Let’s take a look at 9 effective ways to do just that - plus a bonus tip at the end!

Get your ideas out of your head and take action. Connect with Sylvia Henderson, your idea implementation expert.

1. WIIFM

“WIIFM” is your “What’s in it for me?” statement. Keep your “WIIFM” written and visible. It is your inner reason for why you want to bring your idea to reality. Let your inner reason statement – your WIIFM – remind you of why you’re taking action to implement your idea.

2. Accountability Partners

If you have someone else to whom you feel responsible for your idea progress, you are more likely to follow through with your intentions. Accountability partners can be just you and another person like a Coach, a group of like-minded individuals, industry masterminds, or executive advisory boards. Choose a partnership that lends expertise and positivity to your idea. It is rare to find a successful entrepreneur who hasn't had multiple coaches. It is one of the greatest ROI's you'll ever make.

3. Vision Board

Create a vision board and keep it visible. A vision board is any medium you use to display images that represent what you want to accomplish in your life or your profession. The medium may be paper, cardboard, poster board, or cloth. There are online tools that enable you to create a “virtual” vision board. You find pictures and words that represent your dreams and goals in life and secure them to your vision board. Once created, make sure you mount your vision board in an area you see regularly (if it’s a tangible physical board) or that you can access regularly from your computer or mobile phone.

Power Unleashed: The Resilient Women Entrepreneurs of 2023

Hello to all the bold, fearless women who dare to dream big! As we journey through the energizing year of 2023, let's pause to acknowledge our collective evolution as women entrepreneurs. The shifts in the entrepreneurial landscape over the years have been nothing short of revolutionary!

There was a time when female entrepreneurs had to scale steep mountains, combating bias, limited funding, and the balancing act of family and enterprise. Often, we were underestimated, overlooked, or unheard. Yet, we carried on, fuelled by an unwavering belief in our potential to lead, innovate, and create.

Fast forward to 2023, and we're setting new milestones. Take, for instance, Maya Mathias, whose AI-driven edtech start-up, InnovEd, has secured an investment of $25 million. Or consider Sarah Bellingham, who became the youngest woman CEO of a Fortune 500 company this year, steering her green energy enterprise, SolaRev, towards unprecedented success. And who can overlook Alice Liu, whose social commerce platform, ChatShop, has transformed the online shopping experience, empowering countless small businesses in the process.

Welcome to 2023, and behold the transformation we've catalyzed! We aren't merely participants in the game; we're reshaping the rules, shattering glass ceilings, and constructing empires.

Our resilience is paying off, with investors beginning to acknowledge and invest in the unmatched potential of women-led ventures. As evidence, a remarkable study revealed that startups led by women generate higher revenue—double per dollar invested—compared to those led by men.

Technological advancement has been a potent ally in our journey. Just look at tech wizard Lisa Armstrong's groundbreaking work in quantum computing, revolutionizing cybersecurity for businesses worldwide. It has democratized opportunities and resources, giving us platforms to shine, connect, and learn.

Women entrepreneurs in 2023 radiate ambition, and confidence, and are unafraid of taking risks. We've discarded the societal conventions of 'what women should do' and adopted a powerful mantra: 'what women can do.'

Networking has transitioned from a 'nice-to-have' to an essential tool. We've cultivated supportive, strong communities, celebrating each other's successes. There's a profound understanding that when one woman succeeds, it's a victory for all women.

How Kindness Goes a Long Way for Entrepreneurs

When you think about the word ‘entrepreneur’, qualities like leadership, fierceness, and hard-working might come to mind. But what about the quality of kindness?

The theme of collaboration over competition has surfaced over the years changing the way entrepreneurs do business. This shift is caused by major changes in the industry like the fact that women have grown to represent over 42 percent of all American businesses with over 250 million women entrepreneurs worldwide. And psychologically, women report experiencing more compassion in their lives than men report doing. So, it’s time to change the way we think about business.

Recent studies have shown that kindness can pay off more than we think, especially in the modern workforce. Looking back at the climate of 2020, kindness was quick to become the emerging trend of the year. From compassionate brands helping provide the resources and tools for others to spread the message like the Nonprofit Campaign, Random Acts of Kindness, and Kindness.org, to social media movements. Big corporations like Dairy Queen, Havaianas, and Volkswagen were also quick to jump on the movement with their own acts of kindness.

Amazing things happen when entrepreneurs shift from a self-centered, aggressive approach and choose to be sympathetic and have compassion in business. In honor of World Kindness Day, we decided to dive into how kindness goes a long way for entrepreneurs.

Mindfulness Tips for Entrepreneurs When the Going Gets Hard

During times of uncertainty and hardship, it’s necessary to practice mindfulness. You will come across a lot of these moments as an entrepreneur, and it’s normal to be uncomfortable. However, you must get used to checking in with your thoughts and feelings to understand what is going on. This mindfulness is key for unlocking big potential in both you and your business.

There is no way you can prepare for everything that may get thrown your way. A great example of this that many can relate to is the global pandemic. The unknown is inevitable, but so is finding a solution to help you stay in a good headspace. You may not realize this, but you are better prepared than you realize, and staying present and mindful will help support good decision-making. You will find more peace amongst the perceived chaos around you by doing so.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness may be described in many ways. You may have heard of it as taking time for self-care or seen it during a meditation session. But what is it really?

Ryan M. Niemiec, Psy.D., an education director at the VIA Institute on Character, describes mindfulness in three characteristics:
Not taking things for granted

Returning to the present moment
Self-regulation of attention with an attitude of curiosity, openness, and acceptance

Now, for entrepreneurs, mindfulness involves the process of being in tune with your thoughts and body, regularly checking in, and making adjustments based on what you notice. Sound familiar? It’s the opposite of mindlessly doing things or acting out of emotion without intention or strategy to back it up.

Feeding Your Success: The Overlooked Role of Nutrition in Women's Entrepreneurial Journey

As women entrepreneurs, amidst the whirlwind of building your empires, have you ever found yourself forgetting the basics? Yes, we're talking about eating and staying hydrated. These seemingly small tasks are the fuel that keeps our engines running, yet, often end up at the bottom of our to-do lists.

Let's change that! Here's why nutrition is critical and how to ensure it doesn't take a backseat in your entrepreneurial journey.

The Power of Nutrition

Balanced nutrition and hydration play a crucial role in our physical health and cognitive function. Proper nourishment can boost our energy levels, enhance concentration, and improve mood— all essential for effective decision-making and leadership.

In contrast, skipping meals or living on coffee can lead to fatigue, brain fog, and irritability, hindering your performance and productivity.

Staying Fueled: Tips for the Busy Woman Entrepreneur

1. Meal Prep: Allocate a few hours each week to plan and prepare your meals. This way, you always have healthy meals at hand, reducing the chances of skipping meals or reaching for unhealthy options.

2. Stay Hydrated: Keep a water bottle with you at all times. If you're not a fan of plain water, try infusing it with fruits, herbs, or drink herbal tea. Apps like 'My Water Balance' can help you track your intake and remind you to drink up!

3. Snack Smart: Stock up on healthy, nutrient-dense snacks like nuts, fruits, yogurt, or hummus with veggies. These can help keep your energy levels stable between meals.

4. Mindful Eating: Take a few moments to focus on your meal, savor the flavors, and listen to your hunger and fullness cues. This practice can enhance digestion, satisfaction, and your relationship with food.

5. Delegate and Automate: Consider using a meal delivery service or hiring help for meal preparation if your schedule is too tight.

6. Regular Exercise: Physical activity can stimulate your appetite and helps in better nutrient absorption. It also boosts your mood and energy levels.

7. Set Reminders: Use technology to your advantage. Set alarms for meal and water breaks.

8. Nutrition Education: Understand the basics of nutrition and how different foods fuel your body. This knowledge can inspire healthier choices.

Remember, as you build your empire, your health is your greatest wealth. Your body is your most important business asset; fuel it wisely and watch your productivity soar. After all, success tastes better when served with a side of health and wellness. Let's pledge to not just be powerhouse entrepreneurs, but well-nourished ones too!

The Rise of Audio Influencers | Women Entrepreneurs

Audio creators are the newest influencers to the digital market, mostly born from the rise of podcasts and the audio-based app Clubhouse. This doesn’t come as a surprise looking at the past few years where many content creators turned into mini-celebrities within their genre due to social media and streaming platforms. There was a huge surge during the lockdown. With limited and restricted outdoor activity, people moved their attention from the outside world to the digital world where information to entertainment was consumed in the form of online content from video to audio.

Now, content creators continue to go out of their way to showcase their craft and expertise via their social media and streaming platforms in hope of gaining an “influence”. And many are doing it quite well as newcomers and professionals lead into the digital playground with an open mind.

Audio influencing has become such a widespread phenomenon that even platforms like Twitter have started to introduce their own form of audio-based rooms, with Facebook also introducing a new in-app podcast player. These new features come as Clubhouse, the trailblazing app that started it all, approaches the end of an explosive first year. According to one researcher, the app has been downloaded more than 4.7 million times since its introduction just last April.

Many industry experts see this interactive audio trend as an exciting area that will produce a new wave of influencers. “Never before have so many brands, entrepreneurs, influencers and regular folks had instant access to their most devoted audience,” author of “The Passion Economy”, Adam Davidson told the New York Times. “Like any transformational medium, it offers new opportunities.

14 Social Media DON'TS for Entrepreneurs | Women entrepreneur network ottawa

The constant evolution of social media can make it difficult to stay on top of social media etiquette and best practices, especially if you’re an entrepreneur who has a million other things to attend to. When it comes to social media etiquette for business, it takes practice to fully get a grasp on how these tips apply to your day-to-day execution.

Here are 14 social media DON’TS when it comes to social media etiquette for businesses:

DON’T: Have one social media page for your personal and business account

Sounds pretty obvious right? Not always, especially when you prefer convenience over compromise. Remember to set up completely new social media pages for your business the moment you decide to enter the world of social media. You should use your personal account to share your perspective and information about your life, which should not be connected to your business.

DON’T: Post whenever you want / can

There’s a method to the madness! If you don’t manage and create a schedule for posting, you could miss out on opportunities. Consider investing in a platform scheduler, such as Later or Buffer to help you with planning your content out. Doing so will allow you to be consistent and grow your digital presence more efficiently.

DON’T: Forget to use social media holidays

Being able to keep on top of news and trends is what makes a great social media marketer. Celebrating social media holidays can help you increase brand awareness and reach. Sharing hashtag holiday-themed content can also help to engage your audience. Get creative with it and be sure to only utilize holidays that are relevant to your business.

DON’T: Dismiss engaging with others and encouraging engagement

Engagement is a crucial indicator of social media success. In fact, 64 percent of marketers said that increasing engagement is vital for a social media marketing strategy. Social media is a two-way street. You must cultivate a community by being involved and creating content like polls and calls-to-action to get them involved too.

Creating a Successful Post-Coronavirus Business Strategy

Business will no longer be the same post-pandemic. Once we start moving past the crisis, businesses must reinvent themselves and product or service offerings to survive in the economy. We’ve come up with a 5-step system to follow: dissect, innovate, evaluate, master, implement. This method solely relies on the evidence found throughout the 5-step process and decision-making once completed.

There are some factors you have to consider before starting: companies have little funding to work with; team members are ready to get back to work but are wary of the current climate; consumers are spending less on non-necessities, and transactions have shifted to online channels.

Now, we dive into the 5-step system that business owners and leaders should start planning for the post-pandemic economy to come.

 Dissecting your current operations.

This doesn’t mean to scratch everything you currently are doing and figure out how to reinvent the wheel. It simply means to tweak a few pieces of your business operations. For example, a company that is doing social media marketing might still see strong demand for its service, but the target market may shift from young entrepreneurs who may be low on funds to an older age range of business owners who have government income flowing in and don’t understand how social media works. This latter generation does not care to participate in complex platforms or learn graphic design. However, they are interested in strategies that will help their business thrive in the current market climate and are more likely to invest.

The target market would experience a slight shift, but the changes in operations are what would significantly alter. It would require the business to switch up marketing efforts and message distribution channels. This is where dissection moves into the next step.

The Art of Work-Life Balance for the Entrepreneurial Woman

We're here today with some much-needed real talk about work-life balance in the lives of entrepreneurial women. As part of the women's business network and women's networking groups, we know that being a business owner is a thrilling ride, but it can also be a demanding and time-consuming endeavor, am I right?

Women entrepreneur blogs feature insightful content and valuable resources, aimed at supporting and inspiring female business owners as they navigate the challenges and triumphs of their entrepreneurial journey.

Set Boundaries and Stick to Them

A boundary by definition is a solid barrier that is not to be budged, and as a woman entrepreneur, I found that the more balls I juggle the more curveballs are likely to get through on my way. Curveballs rarely can be ignored and rarely do they stick within my non-budegable boundaries. So instead of boundaries, I believe the secret to feeling a sense of balance while juggling it all this more so having clear non-negotiables, non-negotiables allow you to be fluid in the way in which they happen. And when a curveball gets thrown into the juggling rotation, I find it way easier to balance, my curveball within that rotation than I do a boundary. It’s a small paradigm shift that has made a world of a difference in my sanity trying to create balance.

Prioritize and Delegate

As members of women's networking groups and entrepreneurial women, it's natural to feel the need to do it all. However, it's important to prioritize tasks and learn to delegate when necessary. By focusing on high-priority tasks and assigning less critical responsibilities to team members, you can free up time for personal activities and self-care without compromising your business's success.

Schedule Personal Time

Just as you would schedule important meetings and work tasks within the women's business network, it's crucial to schedule personal time in your calendar. Whether it's exercising, spending time with loved ones, or indulging in a hobby, penciling in personal time ensures you prioritize self-care and maintain balance in your life.

Cultivate a Supportive Network

A strong support system is invaluable for entrepreneurial women in women's networking groups. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who understand your goals and challenges. Networking with other entrepreneurs or joining women-focused business groups can offer a sense of community, encouragement, and opportunities to learn from others' experiences.

Discover our thriving community of like-minded individuals by clicking here, and join us in sharing experiences, knowledge, and support on your entrepreneurial adventure!
