quick workout ideas for busy business owners

As a busy business owner, it can feel like there’s no time for exercise, especially with packed schedules and endless to do lists. But staying active doesn’t have to mean carving out hours for the gym or hitting a strict workout routine.

It’s easy to fall into the “all or nothing” mindset, thinking if you can’t dedicate a full hour to exercise, why bother? But in reality, all or something still counts. Every little bit of movement adds up, and it’s about finding quick, simple ways to stay active throughout your day.

Here are some practical workout ideas that are easy to take action on, even with a packed schedule.

Take the Long Way

Instead of always looking for the closest parking spot or quickest route, opt to add extra steps to your day. Parking further from the store or taking the stairs instead of the elevator can easily increase your daily activity. These little decisions make a difference without requiring extra time out of your day and can easily add to your daily step count.

Try It Out: When you run errands, park at the far end of the lot. As a bonus, return your shopping cart all the way to the store entrance instead of the cart corral—those extra steps add up!

Stretch At Your Desk

Sitting at a desk for hours can leave you feeling stiff and tired. Quick stretches during your workday not only help improve your flexibility but also get your blood flowing. Taking a few minutes to stretch can wake up your body and mind, boosting your energy for the rest of the day.

Try It Out: Set a timer to remind yourself to stand up every 30 minutes. Try simple stretches like neck rolls, shoulder shrugs, or standing hamstring stretches.

Make Use of Waiting Time

Whether you’re waiting for a meeting to start, on hold with a client, or even watching something download, these moments of downtime are perfect opportunities to sneak in some movement. You don’t need to commit to a full workout—just a few quick moves can keep you active.

Try It Out: While waiting, march in place, do calf raises, leg lifts, or even arm circles if you’re in a more private space. These quick exercises take no extra time out of your day and can be done anywhere. They’ll get your blood flowing!

Turn Meetings Into Walking Meetings

If you have a casual phone meeting or a brainstorming session that doesn’t require sitting in front of a computer, why not take it on the move? Walking meetings are a great way to get some fresh air and squeeze in steps while still being productive.

Try It Out: The next time you have a phone meeting, grab your headphones and head out for a walk. The change of scenery can spark creativity, and the added movement helps clear your mind.

Use Your Morning or Evening Routine

Incorporating movement into your daily routine is easier than it sounds. Whether it’s adding squats while brushing your teeth or a few stretches before bed, these small changes can improve your overall activity level.

Try It Out:  YouTube is full of free yoga videos. Try adding one to your morning or evening routine. These little bursts of activity can become easy habits over time.

Being a business owner doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your health. Exercise doesn’t have to be an all or nothing situation; small movements throughout the day still positively impact.

By incorporating these simple, actionable ideas into your daily routine, you can stay active without blocking out hours of time. Remember, every bit of movement counts, and making small, consistent choices can lead to big results over time.
