The Psychology of Color in Marketing: A Guide for Women-Owned Businesses

Color—it's not just a visual treat; it's a psychological phenomenon that impacts our thoughts, feelings, and actions. And if you're in the marketing game, harnessing the power of color can significantly influence your brand's success. Especially for women-owned businesses, understanding the psychology of color is vital in creating a powerful brand presence. So let's deep-dive into this vibrant world and discover how to use color to your advantage.

What is Color Psychology?

Color psychology refers to the study of hues as a determinant of human behavior. Essentially, different colors can evoke different emotions, and these emotional responses can be harnessed for impactful marketing strategies.

Why is Color Psychology Important?

Did you know that color accounts for 60% of the decision to buy or not buy a particular product? Given its influence on purchasing decisions, color psychology is a must-know subject for any women-owned business engaged in marketing.

Leaders in the Field

When it comes to leveraging the psychology of color, experts like Joe Hallock, renowned for his work in "Colour Assignments," and Pantone, the global authority on color, offer insightful data-driven perspectives on how color influences consumer behavior.

How to Choose the Right Colors

Trust and Reliability: Blue

Popular among financial institutions, blue symbolizes trust and reliability. If your brand stands for stability, consider incorporating shades of blue into your marketing materials.

Navigating Friendships in Business: The Pros and Cons for Women Entrepreneurs

In the realm of entrepreneurship, we often hear the phrase "It's not what you know, but who you know." Networking is a cornerstone of business success, but what happens when those business connections blur into friendships? Can you successfully mix friendship with business without risking either?

Today, we'll unpack the pros and cons of working with friends in the entrepreneurial world. We'll dig deep, share some insights, and provide actionable steps to help you decide if this is a venture you're willing to take.

The Pros: The Bright Side of Working with Friends

Shared Vision and Values

When you and your friend are on the same page, there's a natural alignment that can make decision-making smoother. You both have a deep-rooted understanding of each other's values, which can be immensely beneficial when navigating the landscape of entrepreneurship.

Trust and Loyalty

In business, trust can be hard to come by. But when you're working with a friend, there's already a built-in layer of trust. This can speed up project timelines, make partnerships more robust, and give you the freedom to be more open and honest.

Emotional Support

Entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Having a friend as a business partner or colleague can provide a reliable emotional support system during tough times. They understand you on a personal level, which can be a godsend during stressful periods.

The Cons: The Not-So-Sunny Side

The Risk of Unprofessional Behavior

Friendship often comes with a casual dynamic, and that casualness can inadvertently creep into a business setting. This can lead to unprofessional behaviors like missed deadlines or a laissez-faire attitude toward responsibilities.

Conflict Resolution Can Get Messy

Disagreements are a normal part of business, but when you're working with a friend, resolving conflicts can become emotionally charged. The lines between friendship and business blur, and this can make finding a resolution more complicated.

The Art of Braving: A Crucial Tool for Networking Entrepreneurs

Let's begin by talking about connection. As human beings, we are wired for connection - it's in our DNA. As entrepreneurs, the value of connection magnifies. Networking, a form of connection, plays a pivotal role in our journey towards building successful businesses. Yet, it's not always easy. It requires vulnerability, courage, and trust, or what I often refer to as 'Braving.'

What is Braving?

Braving is a concept I use to outline the key components of trusting relationships, whether they're with our clients, partners, or fellow entrepreneurs. Each letter in 'Braving' stands for a different aspect: Boundaries, Reliability, Accountability, Vault, Integrity, Non-judgment, and Generosity.

Braving and Networking: How They Connect

Now, let's dig deeper into how each of these facets of Braving can enrich your networking experience.

Boundaries: Networking starts with knowing your boundaries and respecting those of others. It involves clear communication of what's acceptable and what isn't, allowing for mutual respect and understanding.

Reliability: Being reliable is crucial. Can people count on you to do what you say? In networking, showing up consistently and following through on commitments goes a long way in building strong connections.

Accountability: Mistakes happen. Owning up to them, making amends, and learning from them builds trust and shows others you're accountable. It's an invaluable trait when establishing connections in the business world.

Vault: The 'Vault' refers to confidentiality - not divulging information that's not ours to share. In networking, keeping someone's trust is as crucial as earning it. By honoring confidentiality, we foster a safe and trusting environment.

Integrity: In networking, as in life, integrity is choosing courage over comfort, and doing what's right over what's easy or fast. It's about living in alignment with your values, even when no one is watching.

Non-Judgment: Effective networking involves offering and asking for help without judgment. Everyone is on a unique journey with its own set of challenges. A non-judgmental approach enables open conversations and mutual support.

Generosity: Finally, generosity. Assume people are doing the best they can with the tools they have. A generous approach nurtures empathy and understanding, fostering stronger connections.

Braving in Practice

When we practice Braving in our networking efforts, we open doors to authentic and meaningful connections. We build relationships grounded in mutual trust and respect. We create networks that support our growth, resilience, and success as entrepreneurs.

5 Self-Care Strategies for Busy Entrepreneurs

At eWomenNetwork, we are all about taking time for self-care because your business only functions as well as you do. You can’t function correctly if you are stressed out. Researchers have suggested that entrepreneurs have more mood swings and a loss of motivation due to a certain character trait. Entrepreneurs are so busy wearing many different hats that they often forget to take a much-needed step back, so it is very important to practice self-care. Even the most successful entrepreneurs know you have to carve out time for yourself.

What is Self-Care?

Let us clear up one thing: self-care does not mean you are being selfish. Self-care is a term used to describe one's actions of staying healthy, both mentally and physically, by doing activities that make you feel good. In the past few years, this definition has expanded into activities such as pampering yourself, focusing on emotional needs, and personal growth. It’s time to start managing your health and well-being starting with self-care. Here are our team’s five self-care activities for busy entrepreneurs.

1. Get Moving

Try to exercise every single day, even for a little bit - it’s a great stress reliever. Staying active forces you to apply yourself mentally and physically. A simple walk around your office, or a few jumping jacks, when you’re feeling overwhelmed can help you get out of your head. Simply walking around can help you disconnect from work which helps you in your after-work hours. No longer laying awake thinking about work and helps you to be more present at home.

2. Create A Workspace You Love

You spend the majority of your time in your office, so be mindful of that when decorating. Your workspace can motivate you or cause more distractions. Clutter on your desk needs to be cleared before you head home, so you can start your next day fresh. Some affirmation wall decor definitely wouldn’t hurt to put up in your space as that can help you feel more confident. Less can actually be more productive, make sure your workspace flows and makes you feel good being in there.

3. Make Time to Do Other Things That You Love

Everyone needs a break from work to blow off steam and do something that they enjoy. It’s called me-time for a reason so do with it what you want and when you want to. If you want to read every night before bed, then do it. If you want to exercise every morning before work, then do it. Even getting your nails done monthly, go do it. Make time for all the things you love doing and actually do it. Find ways every night to unwind from work, that will help you not feel burnt out. No more excuses.

4. Treat Yourself

This phrase can mean many different things to people. For some, this means buying yourself something, big or small. For others, it means taking time for yourself to read, write, paint, take a bath, or catch up on your favorite shows. Either way, allow yourself to be rewarded for all your hard work. Give yourself the recognition you deserve because you do work incredibly hard. Doing something fun that you enjoy helps give your mind a break so you can be more creative and energized when you have to get back to work.

What to Wear to the Annual eWN ICON

We are less than a week away from eWomenNetwork’s 2021 ICON, so it’s crunch time to find yourself some iconic outfits. Our conference will have you moving around quite a bit, engaging and interacting with others, so dress for comfort. However, keep in mind any activities you will participate in and dress accordingly for them. If you don’t know what you’re wearing to ICON yet, don’t worry, our digital advantage team has curated fashion tips specifically for our event.

Why does what you wear to a conference even matter?

When most people think of preparing for an event, you probably think of practicing speeches or possibly the event setup. However, there is so much more that goes into an event preparation, such as what you are wearing, especially if you’re a speaker. Confidence is going to be the best part of any outfit you wear. If you look good, you feel good, if you feel confident, then you will perform well, and will translate well to the audience.

Masks

eWomenNetwork’s ICON Conference will be following the protocols outlined by the CDC, our hosting Hotel, Embassy Suites a Hilton Property, and the City and State’s rules and guidelines, in order to provide our members with a safe and comfortable environment for our 20th Anniversary ICON Conference. We are also socially distancing in our ballrooms and encouraging mask-wearing.

Shoes

Being at a conference can make for a long day if you’re in comfortable shoes. Closed-toe shoes, sandals, and flats are great options because they are neither extremely dressy nor casual and can be dressed up or down depending on the rest of your outfit.

Color Theory for Conferences

Knowing the environment that you will be presenting in, is very important, so you know what colors to wear that will pop on stage and translate well on camera. Wear colors that contrast with the background you will be standing in front of, but keep in mind that the background can affect the color you are wearing. Colors that are in front of a dark background will appear less intense, compared to bright backgrounds they will make your outfit seem brighter.

Jewel tones, such as purple, emerald green, or sapphire blue are very saturated colors, so they always show up great on stage and on camera, and work with a wide variety of skin tones. Sunset tones, such as yellow to red, have issues showing up well on camera as they create high contrast edges around them, aka halos. For best results, keep in mind the background that will be at the event as well as what looks best on you.

7 Tips For Achieving A Millionaire Mindset As An Entrepreneur

Your mindset is the most important factor in determining whether or not you will succeed in your life. In today’s day and age, it can be easy to lose sight of your goals and the life you envisioned for yourself, that’s why it’s critical to cultivate a “millionaire mindset”. Developing a millionaire mindset requires you to stretch your thinking. So, we’re sharing some of our favorite mindfulness tips to get you there.

Why is a millionaire mindset so important for entrepreneurs?

Many of the best entrepreneurs know exactly where they’re going, how they’re going to get there, and their why behind it all. Business owners that have a “millionaire mindset” have a “now” mentality, instead of procrastinating the very tasks that will get them where they want to. Knowing your “why” and being a “now” kind of person will push you in the right direction of achieving a millionaire mindset. Millionaire business owners have a very clear vision of the impact and legacy they are building.

1. Ask For Help When You Need It

You don’t have to know everything. For example, if you’re an entrepreneur waiting for the right tools to be handed to you before starting a project, you’re going to be waiting for a long time. You must move from this way of thinking into one that can start any project with the tools that are available at the moment. It is perfectly fine to be a work in progress. The more confidence you have, the more that will motivate you to take action which leads to more results, and expansion.

2. Believe In Yourself

So many people are too timid to admit they want something and actually take the action to do it. You need to become more assertive and honest with yourself, but you also need to believe that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. But, remember it is not your job to reinvent the wheel, you just need to identify the issue and work towards solving it. That’s why it’s so important to develop the millionaire mindset. Entrepreneurs with millionaire mindsets play to win, not to avoid defeat.

3. Understand Failure Is Necessary For Success

It’s almost impossible to achieve anything if you don’t set any goals for yourself. By setting attainable goals, you can reach success more effectively, instead of as quickly as possible. Even failure reap benefits that will serve you in the future. Once you begin putting yourself out there to help others, you will see benefits and open a lot of doors for yourself.

PLATINUM Summit 2022

The 9th Annual PLATINUM Summit took place at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach, CA. It was an event to remember. Let's hear what people are saying!

"OMG. All I can say about my first PLATINUM Summit is "WHY WAS THIS MY FIRST PLATINUM SUMMIT?" Sandra has been speaking on behalf of women entrepreneurs before it was the IT THING. This community is everything to a woman entrepreneur or a woman looking to become an entrepreneur. Not only is she a master at connecting and growing a business, she has surrounded herself with like-minded women. The support I received at my first summit was more than I could have ever imagined. Not only did I get ideas on my current business, I now have jumped into another project and invested in another business. I got back four days ago. My outlook changed my first day back at the office, I was lighter, more focused and more goal oriented than I have been in a long time. I am honored to be a PLATINUM member and be a part of this brilliant community."

-Amanda Rawls

"Sandra pours into us so much and she always comes up with new content that is timely and useable!! Plus the sisterhood of the attendees...you feel so welcome and so loved! It amazes me how everyone wants to lift others around them to new heights!" – Tami McDonald

"This Platinum experience in 2022 was my favorite eWomenNetwork event to date! The heartfelt connections of like-minded individuals offered a space of belonging and growth." – Christina Dyer

"Attending a Platinum conference is unlike any other conference I've ever attended. The access to Sandra, Kym and Briana - and their brilliance - is the energy and inspiration I need. And when I get home, with my lists of ideas, the thing that always stands out are the people I had connected with, and the creativity that is sparked by being in the room of such awesome, inspiring women." – Donna Galassi

How to Run a Successful Business as an Introvert

There’s always been lots of talk about the pros and cons of extroverts versus introverts. The stereotype often paints extroverts as the gregarious go-getters and introverts as the quiet wallflowers.

RIDICULOUS.

Introverts have a unique set of special superpowers; it’s no coincidence that some of the most famous entrepreneurs and inventors in history were (and are) introverts.

Embrace the power of one-on-one communication. Contrary to popular belief, being introverted doesn’t mean you’re not a people person, it means you excel in small group and one on one situations. Introverts tend to be better listeners and have a great affinity for empathy. Embrace those opportunities for one-on-one interactions and small groups to really shine.

Consider an extroverted business partner. Life is all about balance; work, life, and everything in between. This isn’t about finding someone who makes up for perceived shortcomings, it’s about finding the yin to your yang so you can both lean into your strengths and increase your chances for success!

Take time to recharge. Introverts need to take care in managing their energy. Introverts are known to be outstanding listeners with a knack for empathy. This means they are excellent networkers but must prioritize mental recharging to ensure they’re able to take full advantage of their skills.

How to Protect Yourself and Your Identity in 2022 During the Online Shopping Season

The holidays are here! Bringing joy, time off from school and work, and days spent with friends and loved ones. But they can also bring added stressors. Whether you’re stretching your financial resources to afford gifts, struggling with travel plans, or rushing to get everything ready before taking some time off, the extra costs and stress could make you more distracted and feel overwhelmed. Why does this matter?

When we’re distracted and trying to multitask, we become more susceptible to hackers, scammers, and Cybermonsters. Cybercriminals are always looking for ways to steal money or access sensitive data. The holidays are an opportunity they can exploit because of our desire to get ahead and find the best deals for fear of missing out. Cybermonsters could trick us into giving up personal information, credit card numbers, or bank account credentials.

How Do I Protect Myself During the Online Shopping Season?

The Be I AM (Be Intentional, Aware, and Mindful) is a simple practice you can incorporate and avoid becoming a victim during this shopping season.

Be Intentional

Being Intentional means acting purposefully. Setting an intention can help with your budget and your safety. For example, you might think you’re getting a great deal because you’ve found a coupon code, but sometimes those codes aren’t legitimate. If you see a discount on an item you want, check out the seller’s reviews and ratings to ensure you’re dealing with someone reputable. Follow these three recommendations to Be Intentional:

Visit the main website instead of clicking an offer over email or text. Beware of online marketplaces you’ve never heard of before. If the offer looks too good to be true, it probably is!

How to Maximize SEO for Your Business Website

Everyone knows about SEO, but do you know about SEO? SEO is Search Engine Optimization. Simply put, SEO is meant to help people find your website. You want someone looking for your services to enter what they want into Google and have your site appear close to the top, right? Obviously, a great way to do this is to hire professional SEO experts to help you, but if you’re not there yet there are several little things you can do to improve your odds. Let’s take a look.

Use the right language. We are all about professional copywriters here, they’re expert professionals who wordsmith how to make the magic you do easy to understand, impressive, and desirable. But not all copywriters are SEO experts. So, when you are thinking about the name of your company, how to tag pages, Google descriptions, and more, make sure the copy reflects what people are most likely to search. If you specialize in custom jewelry, do not add an SEO description that says, “bespoke jewelry for your luminous self”, people probably aren’t googling that phrase. Use something like “custom jewelry made to order.”

Use Google Trends. If you participated in our Grow with Google Challenge this past October, then you already know the magic that is Google Trends. If you weren’t able to join us, Google Trends should be your new best friend when analyzing SEO friendly language. Are you debating whether to use the word custom or bespoke? Powerful versus fierce? Google trends will help you see which word is more searched and where those searches are taking place. Check it out here

Tag everything, even photos. Just because you have had a beautiful website created, doesn’t mean it’s going to show up in a Google search the way you want. Familiarize yourself with your website’s SEO tagging features and do not forget to tag those photos!

A Letter To My Working Mom

Let me go ahead and start this off with saying that I hate the term “working mom,” because I believe even stay-at-home-moms are also WORKING moms. Mom-life ain’t easy and whichever path you choose; you are going to be putting in work.

What I also know, is that while “working-mom-hard” and “stay-at-home-mom-hard” may be equal, they are also very different.

They experience a different kind of mom-guilt.

It’s a different kind of stress.

A different kind of tired.

So today, I want to talk to the “working mom” that is both a mom and also running a business...

Because, you see, not only am I in that category now, so I feel like I get her. But I was also raised by her. I saw her sweat the sweat, and I saw her cry the tears. I might have even seen her shed the blood on a few occasions.

And now as I walk a mile in her stiletto’s, and find myself reliving all her blood, sweat, and tears on my own journey as a working-mom, I wanted to take this Mother’s Day weekend as an opportunity to share 3 of the most profound lessons my mom passed on to me…

I know for a fact that we, women, can really have it all. Not because my mama told me so, but because she showed me so. I watched her do it. I watched her build an empire out of thin air. I watched her have a beautiful marriage and loving relationship with my dad. I watched her be there for me and my brother whenever we needed her most.

I watched her buy the house, hire the trainer, get the TV recognition, do the charity, and accomplish literally everything she wanted. And it’s because she did it herself, that I know with complete confidence and clarity that it’s possible for me.

7 Morning Habits for Highly Effective Entrepreneurs

It’s the beginning of 2023 and therefore the perfect time to begin implementing as many good habits as possible! Many of the most successful people in the world share one thing in common, they all have morning routines. Here are some ideas for how to start the day off right and add fuel to the fire of your success!

Rise early at the same time each day. No hitting the snooze button, wake up and stay up! Entrepreneurs are a hardworking bunch and while consistent, quality sleep is essential, so is having waking hours to recuperate your mind and body. Waking up early is the perfect way to carve out those hours!

Avoid your phone. That’s right, AVOID IT. No laying in bed while checking your email or texting while you brush your teeth. The day is a blank canvas and you must start the day by priming it, not half-heartedly drawing in crayon! The morning should be a sacred routine that prepares you to be in optimum efficiency mode. Hold off on screen time until you are IN optimum efficiency mode.

Make your bed. After a long day of crushing it, isn’t it nice to come home to a neat and tidy bed ready for you to relax and unwind? Rest is essential, but so are developing physical habits that contribute to an orderly mind. Studies also show that those who report regularly making their bed in the morning are more likely to get a good night’s sleep!

Eat a quality breakfast. No more power bars or to-go coffees sans food, find a way to get healthy calories in your body when you wake up. Oprah eats a berry-rich breakfast, Barack Obama eats a full breakfast complete with eggs and potatoes, and Reese Witherspoon has had the same green smoothie daily for over a decade. Figure out what is doable for your lifestyle and prioritize a healthy and satisfying kick start!

10 Business Lessons From Your Favorite Christmas Movies

We hope you’ve left the office behind to enjoy good food with family and friends, but as you grab some hot cocoa and settle in for a marathon of holiday classics, be on the lookout for some outstanding business lessons hidden right inside these Christmas movie favorites.

The Santa Clause

A recently divorced single Dad has the adventure of a lifetime on Christmas Eve, when the real Santa falls off his roof leaving him and his son to take over for a magical night in Santa’s Sleigh. Unfortunately for Scott Calvin (played by Tim Allen), putting on Santa’s suit constituted a binding contract that was outlined in the laughably fine print on Santa’s business card.  Chaos ensues when Scott’s career and custody of his child are jeopardized by the meddlesome North Pole calling Scott to fulfill his destiny as Santa. While most standard business contracts won’t go north pole small in their font, the lesson is an important one.  Always read the fine print.

A Christmas Story

In 1940s Illinois, 9-year-old Ralphie spends the holiday season praying and plotting to receive a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas.

He lays it on thick with his mother, his teacher, andeven Santa in an effort to make sure Red Ryder will be under the tree on Christmas morning.  While Ralphie’s laser focus is admirable, the harder he sells, the more obstacles get in his way. A Christmas Story teaches us to never give up, but just as important: sometimes it’s important to stop selling to get what you want.  Also, be careful with BB guns and icicles.  And always have a pair of backup glasses.
